Description

Second train stop is the pretty old village Santa Maria del Cami with its charming plaza with many cafes and restaurants. The buildings are magnificent and you see the beautiful facades of the 1600 -, 1700 - and 1800's. The Town Hall is a typical Renaissance building. Popular market is on Sunday mornings. Many people come here to buy fruits and vegetables. If you go by car you will find the renowned Bodega Macia Battle at the North exit. You can taste and buy the wine. The village Bunyola is located a few minutes drive west from Santa Maria.

Train stop three is Consell, with a popular Sunday market, a flea market with second hand items. To the west is the scenic village Alaro at the foot of the mountain with the same name. Sit at the plaza in one of the cafés and look at the beautiful old houses. If you like hiking, you will park your car here and start hiking up the mountain to the very top, the Castell de Alaro. On the way down again you should stop at the rustic restaurant Es Verger; its BBQ lamb is widely famous.

Train stop four is Binissalem, one of several wine areas on the island. The winery began in Roman times, but a serious illness affected the grapes. Not until the beginning of the 2000s, it was started in earnest again. Nowadays there are about 70 bodegas producing award-winning wines in Mallorca.

Train stop five is Lloseta before coming to Inca, Mallorca's third largest town. In Inca are shoe manufacturers, such as Camper and producers of leather items. Many visitors stop to shop at the outlets on the outskirts of the city. The market on Thursdays is popular, as much as the small restaurants, which are often located downstairs "cellars". Here we eat homemade menu of the day at low price.
From Inca one train is heading north to Sa Pobla and one train is heading east to Manacor. The latter passes the small village Sineu, a sleepy village with a very busy Wednesday market.

Petra in the east is famous for its son, Fray Junipero Serra, born 1713. He became a priest and went out into the world as a missionary. In the later years of his life he was sent to California, where he built up mission stations. One of these grew into one of America's largest cities, San Francisco.

Other nice places in the central part of Mallorca are Costitx with its great astronomical observatory, Mancor del Valle, Llubi, Montuiri, Algaida and the mountain Randa.
